If you would donate your time to look cool in a pink high-vis we would love to hear from you. No parkrun can operate without a few volunteers especially as we head into the summer holidays. We shouted out during the pre-run brief to ask if there were any milestones but I guess these folks didn’t realise that they qualified for a new purple t-shirt this week or they were shy, either way our congratulations go to Angelica Copping and Sharon Hollister for completing 25 parkruns. Her response, “I call him Sir Hill”, said with a laugh. Her only complaint, our course description says “ It’s largely flat and run on gravel or tarmac paths, but with a section of bark-chipped footpath (which includes the uphill stretch nicknamed ‘Up Pomphrey’.” I joked that we call the hill, “Mr Hill” as he demands respect. Caron Rogers was particularly impressed with how welcoming and friendly we are. We know there were a few first timers with us, twenty six in fact, including some visiting from Bournemouth and Wales. We bid a warm welcome to Sam Cottle who ran his very first parkrun with us. Some folks took the “the quicker I run the sooner it’s over” approach allowing 13 of our runners to celebrate a PB this morning! We hope you had fun regardless of what attitude you took! We started the morning encouraging folks to have a good time rather than run for good time. Looking cool as a cucumber though were our heroes in a High-Vis vest, our volunteers. I would recommend volunteering to anyone looking to have a week off from running or if recovering from an injury. I would just like to thank the organisers for giving me the chance to do this and all the volunteers helping me along the way. ![]() I have really enjoyed all the different roles from cheering people on to the stressful job of timing the run.
